Megi is on a mission to transform how we care for women’s hearts, starting with pregnancy. Born out of Croatia’s leading cardiovascular clinic and co-founded by a doctor-business duo from HEC Paris, Megi delivers cutting-edge care where it matters most.

With a certified medical device built on familiar tech and a strong foundation in clinical research, Megi is tackling a silent crisis, hypertension in pregnancy, and making high-quality cardiovascular monitoring radically more accessible.

From rural Croatia to Nairobi, women are getting support that’s tailored to their needs, not based on outdated one-size-fits-all models.
Now expanding into the US, Megi is proof that when tech meets empathy, healthcare gets personal, proactive and powerful.

Startup

Megi is a healthtech startup on a mission to redefine cardiovascular care for women, starting with pregnancy. The company has developed a certified medical device that operates entirely through WhatsApp, delivering essential monitoring and support to patients with unprecedented ease.

We are definitely pioneers of releasing a medical device that operates on WhatsApp,” said co-founder Nina. “Everybody understands and knows how to use it, so it’s extremely easy for patients to engage with Megi, regardless of their age or socioeconomic status.

Megi is tackling a serious challenge: hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, which are one of the leading causes of maternal and infant mortality worldwide. Through its tech-enabled, accessible platform, Megi is giving healthcare systems a new way to address an old, overlooked problem.

Origin

Megi was born out of a Croatian hospital specialized in cardiovascular care and run by Nina’s family. What started as a clinic-side project quickly turned into a startup with global ambitions.

The cardiovascular clinic where Megi was founded is already 30 years old and run by my family,” said Nina. “We used the infrastructure and knowledge to develop Megi in the first place.

Nina met her co-founder Ines during their MBA at HEC Paris. Combining Ines’ business expertise with Nina’s deep clinical background, they spun Megi out as a standalone company and expanded first to the UK through collaboration with King’s College London and the NHS.

Solution

Megi provides tailored cardiovascular monitoring for women, especially during pregnancy and postpartum. What makes it different is its focus on female physiology, a factor often ignored in traditional care pathways built around male data.

There are significant differences between female and male cardiovascular systems,” Nina explained. “But the vast majority of treatments, drugs, and devices were developed on the male heart.

Built as a chatbot on WhatsApp with Infobip’s Answers platform, Megi ensures healthcare is as inclusive and intuitive as possible. Patients receive real-time support on a familiar channel, making engagement seamless, even in underserved regions. Megi also uses Conversations, SMS, and Email from Infobip’s platform.

Tribe

Megi’s journey with Infobip Startup Tribe began after winning a pitch competition in Dubrovnik, where the prize included credits on Infobip’s platform. For a startup without funding, it was a game-changer.

We weren’t even a company yet,” said Nina. “Being able to experiment and build without incurring too much cost was a cool opportunity. That’s how we became partners.

Today, the Tribe is more than a platform, it’s a support system.

It’s professional and structured, but still very approachable,” she said. “It still feels like a startup community.

What’s next

With regulatory certification secured, Megi is now laser-focused on the US market, where the need is enormous and the healthcare spend is high.

Maternal mortality is two times higher, and growing, in the US than in other developed countries,” Nina noted. “We’re seeing strong traction there and are now extremely excited about what’s ahead.

The next six months will be crucial as Megi sets up operations, builds partnerships with hospitals, and expands its team. The goal? To become the go-to solution for cardiovascular care not just in the US, but worldwide.

Megi is not defined by its technology,” Nina said. “She creates equitable healthcare, she helps patients. That’s what we’re here to do.
