Startup: pioneering digital identity verification in Egypt

Based in Cairo, Vlens is a B2B platform that operates behind the scenes of various mobile applications, establishing the legitimacy of each user. By leveraging AI-driven authentication, biometric verification, and regulatory compliance, Vlens enables businesses to verify identities effortlessly and legally contract online in Egypt.

We are ensuring on behalf of businesses that their customers are the ones who they claim to be. This is the foundation of trust in any digital ecosystem,

says Mohamed Mamdouh, Managing Director & Co-founder.

By eliminating the need for human intervention, Vlens is transforming the way businesses verify identities and making financial services more accessible and secure.

As Mohamed puts it:

Our vision is to make Vlens a unique name in Africa when it comes to digital identity verification and e-contracting services.

Origin: from seamless banking experience to a revolutionary idea

The idea for Vlens was born out of a simple yet transformative realization. While using a fully digital banking service, the founders experienced an identity verification process that was reliable, but clearly had room for improvement due to its reliance on human intervention.

This sparked a question – why couldn’t the process work without human intervention? That moment marked the beginning of what would become Vlens.

Established in February 2022 by three co-founders, Vlens set out to redefine identity verification in Egypt and beyond. Founder, Mohamed Mamdouh, saw an opportunity to bring the same level of digital convenience to emerging markets.

The goal of Vlens is to make Egyptians get used to doing everything from home and then expand this model to similar markets.

Today, Vlens serves 31 enterprise customers, including major players in consumer finance, insurance, and capital markets. Their success is the result of their team’s power of collaboration and its member’s synergy is what drives the company forward with the credo that 1 + 1 is equal more than two.

Mohamed explains:

It’s not about the number of employees; it’s about having the right people in the right place and leveraging the power of AI to deliver value to our customers. That’s what makes the difference.

Solution: securing digital transactions with multi-factor authentication

At its core, Vlens merges security with a seamless user experience. Vlens employs a multi-factor authentication approach that includes:

  • Something you know (username, password)
  • Something you have (National ID, device ID, mobile number, mail address)
  • Something you are (biometrics & liveness signs, location foot prints)

This approach ensures that every digital transaction is both secure and user-friendly. Additionally, Vlens has pioneered end-to-end digital identity verification in Egypt – becoming the first licensed company to operate in this space.

Tribe: empowering growth through collaboration

With previous work experience in communication technology space, Mohamed was well acquainted with Infobip, so it was natural choice when looking for communication solution providers. By leveraging being part of the Infobip Startup Tribe program they integrated Infobip’s SMS services into its authentication process, ensuring secure OTP verification for users. However, the partnership extends beyond just technology – it’s about mutual growth.

Infobip is doing quite well in our verification process, and we see many more areas where we can collaborate beyond SMS,

states Mohamed.

Additionally, Vlens is exploring the potential of Infobip’s chatbot solutions (Answers) to further enhance its customer support automation, ensuring a fully digital, self-service experience for users.

What’s next: a nationwide impact

Vlens has ambitious plans for the future. By the end of 2025, the company aims to dominate the Egyptian market in its three primary sectors. Beyond that, the goal is to expand to similar countries with emerging digital infrastructure and scale its operations while maintaining its focus on security, automation, and seamless user experiences.
As Vlens continues to grow, one principle remains at its core: “Scaling without boundaries.” With regulatory hurdles, technological advancements, and market expansion on the horizon, the team is ready to tackle every challenge head-on. And we’re proud to support them.
